Undergraduate research fellows
The LiFEsportsUndergraduate Research Fellowship was awarded to four undergraduate students during the 2019 inaugural year. The Ohio State University (OSU) Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Inquiry (OUR&CI) and LiFEsports Initiative selected undergraduate students to be a part of an interdisciplinary team assisting with research and evaluation of LiFEsports Summer Camp and Youth Leadership Academy. Fellows will receive hands-on research learning experience involving data collection, data entry and management and basic data analyses.
Emily Gutzwiller is a sophomore at OSU studying Environmental Public Health in relation to health administration and healthy behavior. She wants to use her education to support children and hopes her experience with LiFEsports will help her identify a clearer career path for accomplishing this goal!
Sandy Lee is a junior at OSU studying English Literature as well as completing coursework for the pre-medicine track. Her recent experience with Upward Bound a mentorship program for Columbus youth led her to seek more experience in mentoring and working alongside youth. In the future, she wishes to integrate public health and clinical medicine to focus on social determinants of health.
Claire Sobecki is a sophomore at OSU studying Social Work and Spanish in relation to the role of fitness in overall well-being. Her interest in the intersection of fitness and social work align closely with the mission of LiFEsports. Through her involvement, she hopes to support youth in developing their skills and self-efficacy.
Melanie Tipton is a junior at OSU studying Early Childhood Education with a minor in Substance Use and Addiction. She was first introduced to LiFEsports as a coach during summer camp in 2014.
